Emergencies |
Students are required to report to the Student Health Center first before going to any hospital and/or private physician for any illness or injury to be covered under the Jackson State University Student Health Insurance Program. Otherwise, you will be responsible for your own bill (bills). If illness or injury should occur after clinic hours, please report to your dormitory counselor or call the Campus Police at 601-979-2580. |
Emergency Dental Care |
Emergency dental care is limited. Students will be prescribed pain medications by the university physician until other arrangements can be made. |
Health Education/ Health Counseling and/or Information |
Student Health Centre will provide Health Counseling or Health Education as needed. Appropriate referrals are available. |

Laboratory Service |
Laboratory specimens for diagnostic testing are sent to the Mississippi State Department of Health or to a private clinical lab for analysis with results within 24 hours. Call 601-979-2260 for more information. |
Men’s Health Clinic |
The Men’s Clinic is given in an effort to help improve the health and mind of young men by providing preventive medical care through medical services, health education and promotion of healthy lifestyles. The clinic is held on Wednesdays by appointment only. |

Pregnancy testing is done on request. |
Prescription service/Information |
Limited pharmacy services are available. There is a nominal charge for most medications. Most common cold preparations and analgesics are free. All fees will be charged to the student’s fee sheet. |
STD Information/ Treatment/Testing |
STD testing is done by request. Treatment is by order of the Physician or Nurse Practitioner. All information is available on request. Referrals can me made to the local Health Department if needed. |
Student Health Insurance |
All currently enrolled full-time students, undergraduate and graduate, are covered by a limited mandatory health insurance plan. This plan is a supplemental plan only, and pays just a portion of hospitalization and medical care for those illnesses or accidents that cannot be treated in the Student Health Center. Students must report first to the Health Center before going to any medical provider. Failure to adhere to this procedure would make the student solely responsible for all encumbered expenses. It is strongly recommended that student s check with parents to see if they are currently covered under any other health insurance plan, and if not, such a plan should be obtained. An optional plan can be purchased thought the Health Center. Call 601-979-2260 for more information. |
Treatment of Injuries and Illness |
Students requiring treatment for illness or injury are to report to the Health Cneter during hours of operation. Some illnesses may require outside treatment. If so the SHC will refer students as needed. |

X-Ray Service |
