Greetings Jackson State University!
“If you are going to achieve excellence in big things, you develop the habit in little matters. Excellence is not an exception, it is a prevailing attitude.”
Greetings to the incoming Jackson State University Class of 2012! I am Dillon H. Robinson, a Senior Biology/Pre-Medicine major with a minor in Speech Communications, and your Student Government Association President 2008-2009.
Entering Jackson State University as a freshman in the Fall of 2005, I knew not what to expect. Attending Welcome Week 2005, I was introduced to someone that I grew to greatly admire for her poise, hard work, and her profound love for JSU, as well as the JSU student body, I was introduced to SGA President 2005-2006, Ms. Kimberly Hardy. At the completion of freshman year, I adhered to the advice of Kimberly and other SGA leaders, and pursued the office of Sophomore Class Vice-President and served my first official term as a member of the SGA, under the administration of SGA President 2006-2007, Mr. Jamaal Jackson. Observing Kimberly and Jamaal and noting their demeanor and their astounding work ethic, I always compared myself to them and wondered how it actually felt to serve as SGA President on the collegiate level and representing the voices of over 9,000 students daily.
The Student Government Association has and will always play a pivotal role here at Jackson State University for the SGA voices and expresses the needs and concerns of the most important beings on the JSU campus, the student body. It is my vision that the 2008-2009 Jackson State University Student Government Association will adequately and efficiently represent and advocate the needs and concerns of the Jackson State University student body.
The Student Government Association is equipped with competent leaders who know the value of hard work, so together we will bring you the best freshman year possible here at Jackson State University. We ask that you work in collaboration with us, as we are only as strong as the students that support the SGA.
The platform that I have chosen for the 2008-2009 administration of the Student Government Association is “Building A Dynasty.” A dynasty is defined as a succession of powerful or prominent people hailing from the same family. We, the JSU student body, are both PROMINENT and POWERFUL and we are all members of the JSU family. We must start to realize the legacy that is Jackson State University and take the necessary steps to propel the Student Government Association, as well as Jackson State University to the next level of success!
During Welcome Week 2008, the freshman class will elect class officers, as well as a Mr. & Miss Freshman to serve on the SGA and the Royal Court for Miss JSU 2008-2009. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns concerning Jackson State University or how you can become a member of the 2008-2009 Student Government Association, feel free to contact me by e-mail at dillon.h.robinson@jsums.edu.
Thanks for your attention and I look forward to working with each of you and forming strong friendships as we embark on the quest to “Build A Dynasty” here at Jackson State University where we pride ourselves on “Challenging Minds and Changing Lives.” I look forward to meeting each of you in August and once again Welcome to the JSU family!
With ferocious JSU Tiger Pride,
Dillon H. Robinson,
SGA President 2008-2009 |
