It is a pleasure for me, on behalf of the Division of Student Life, to welcome each of you to Jackson State University. We are happy to have you as a part of the JSU family and community.
The Division of Student Life feels that a significant part of the educational process is your personal development. We feel that positive personal growth should not be left to chance, and thus will offer you many opportunities to develop as a person. We encourage you to become involved in all the positive facets of life at Jackson State so that you may gain the full benefit of the educational opportunities offered at this historic institution.
As a student, you should understand why you are at the academy and the value of membership. An understanding and appreciation of approved policies and procedures dictating proper decorum is a must and should be a hallmark for every Jackson State Student. I urge you to be come familiar with the student handbook which is available from the Division of Student Life and on-line at the JSU website. It will provide you information on services to support your academic success and cover important policies and rules concerning the university’s expectations for personal and respectful conduct.
The Associate Vice President’s Office and some units in the Division of Student Life are located in the Old Industrial Arts Building in the center of campus. These units include the Dean of Student Life, Community Service/Service Learning Center, Judicial Services, and the Personal Development/Self Assessment Center. Other units-Campus Union, Special Projects/Greek Affairs, McNair Scholars Program, Student Health Center, Student Organizations/SGA and Student Publications are housed in various locations throughout the campus. We invite you to visit us for information and at any time we can be of help to you.
