10 Steps to Enrolling at JSU

STEP 1 – Get Admitted to JSU

Applying to Jackson State University Takes 3 easy steps:

1)    Submit an online application at http://www.jsums.edu/  by clicking the “Apply to JSU” link on the homepage. You may check the status of your application by calling (601) 979-0928.

2)    Request your high school to send an official transcript to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

3)    Request official ACT or SAT scores be sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.  We suggest that these scores come directly from ACT or SAT. Jackson State University’s College Code for ACT is 2204 and SAT College Code is 1341

Both transcripts and test scores should be mailed to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at the following address:

STEP 2 – Complete the FAFSA

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov and request the results be forwarded to the Financial Aid Office at Jackson State University. The contact number for Financial Aid at JSU is (601) 979-2227. To check the status of your financial aid award:

  1. Go to www.jsums.edu, click on JSU PAWS
  2. Login in using your User ID (J Number) and PIN
  3. Click on financial aid
  4. Click on Award and select Aid Year 2013-14
  5. If you have a Direct Loan Offer, you must “Accept” the loan before funds can be disbursed to your student account.
  6. You must also complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) and Entrance Counseling. You may complete both the MPN and Entrance Counseling at www.studentloans.gov.  Your results will be sent to Jackson State University electronically.

 

STEP 3 – APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS

A number of scholarships are awarded annually by the Office of Enrollment Management, including four-year, renewable Academic Scholarships for incoming freshmen. Departmental Scholarships are also awarded each year to new and current students by the various colleges and departments on campus. STEP 4 – Send Immunization Record

All students born after December 1957 must submit proof of immunization compliance for measles, mumps, and rubella. Immunization Records should be mailed to:

STEP 5 – Apply for Campus Housing

Housing applications are available at www.jsums.edu/housing.

STEP 6 – Tuition Billing and Payment Options

Once a month, an e-bill will be sent to student’s JSU e-mail address.  Students are encouraged to view their student account for accuracy and to make any payments by the due date. JSU does not mail paper billing statements. The contact number to Financial Services is (601) 979-2216.

 

STEP 7 – Attend Orientation

Click here to see the First-Year Orientation, Assessment and Advisement for Fall 2013. Students will complete the university required assessment, meet with academic advisors and register for fall courses. To ensure a great beginning at a great institution, attendance is required for all new students who wish to register before classes begin in August. STEP 8 – Send Final Transcript After Graduation

Final transcripts need to be sent to Undergraduate Admissions as soon as final grades are posted. Please have your high school counselor mail your final transcript to:

STEP 9 – Freshman Move-In Day

Hundreds of JSU students, faculty, staff and alumni volunteer to help the newest Jacksonians and their parents move into the residence halls. Move-In Day is scheduled for Saturday, August 17, 2013. Please call (601) 979-4302 for more information on Freshman Move-In Day.

 

STEP 10 – Fall Orientation/Welcome Week 2013

Welcome Week is a seven-day program that assists first-year students with their academic and social transitions to college life. Building on Jackson State University’s foundation, first-year students will be connected with other students, faculty, and staff. All first-year students are expected to attend Fall Orientation/Welcome Week Activities.
