About the CBDER

The CBDER is housed in the JSU Mississippi e-Center, 1230 Raymond Road, approximately one mile from the main campus. The Director of the CBDER reports to the Dean of the College of Business. Personnel in the CBDER includes one director (vacant), one assistant to the director/editorial coordinator, one research associate/coordinator of research services, one business director, one secretary (vacant), three business counselors (one vacant) and several student assistants. The purpose of the Center for Business Development and Economic Research (CBDER) is to coordinate the research and service functions of the School. The CBDER is actively involved in community and economic development through its partnerships with the Hinds County Economic Development District, the Metro Jackson Chamber of Commerce, the City of Jackson, and other entities and agencies. The CBDER is composed of (2) units which highlight the School’s central mission of research, service and teaching: the Bureau of Business and Economic Research (BBER) and the Small Business Development Center (SBDC).

The CBDER is also involved with the education and training arm of the Mississippi Consortium for International Development (MCID) offering seminars, internships and other training opportunities. To further encourage and highlight the University’s research in the international arena, our Center has entered into a partnership with MCID, AMUR State University of Russia, and Alcorn State University. This partnership facilitates faculty exchanges between the universities, the establishment of international business/trade research projects, and assists faculty in incorporating international business issues in business courses.

The Service of the CBDER revolves around providing support and technical assistant on business and economic matters to government and business. In order to this, the CBDER has placed special emphasis on supporting programs and efforts to assist small and disadvantaged businesses, to promote equal opportunity, and to assist economic and business development for minority and other disadvantaged populations.
