Welcome to the 2010 REU Site at Jackson State University

The Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program in Wireless Ad hoc Networks and Sensor Networks hosted by the Department of Computer Science at Jackson State University (JSU) is being funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). There are 9 positions for this 10-week program. The undergraduate student participants will indulge in high-quality research under the guidance of experienced research mentors.

Summer 2010 will be our second year of hosting the REU program. Our previous REU program (REU 2009) was a great success. Click here to visit our REU 2009 Website

The Summer 2010 REU program starts on Monday, May 24, 2010 and ends on Friday, July 30, 2010.

REU Summer 2010 Application Deadline: March 26, 2010.

Site Objectives: The objectives of the REU program are the following:
  1. Impart a set of basic research skills required to conduct Computer Science research
  2. Introduce students to the procedures for applying to Graduate School and stimulate interest in Computer Science research
  3. Develop a cohort of students with a strong knowledge base in the areas of wireless ad hoc networks and sensor networks
Each student engaged in this REU program will primarily work on two aspects: (i) Algorithm/ Protocol design and (ii) Implementation using simulations. Students will design a new algorithm or conduct research on an existing algorithm for different problems in the areas of wireless ad hoc networks and sensor networks. Students will learn how to develop simulation code for ad hoc networks in an object-oriented programming language like Java/C++/C#.

Research topics will be in the following areas: (i) Mobile ad hoc networks (ii) Sensor networks (iii) Vehicular ad hoc networks. Research projects will involve application and implementation of several graph theory concepts/ algorithms.
