PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Bridges to the Baccalaureate Degree Program (BBDP) is sponsored by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS). The primary purpose of the program is to provide academic and research training in the Biomedical Sciences for talented underrepresented minority community college students and faculty in the natural sciences. In addition, the program enables Jackson State University and Hinds Community College to offer collaborative academic and research training programs in basic science areas that will enhance student competitiveness and faculty training for advanced programs that lead to doctorate degrees in the biomedical sciences. This program will provide: 1) academic year activities on Saturdays and some evenings and 2) an eight week summer program. Salaries are available on an annual basis for participating Hinds Community College students and faculty. Funds are also available to support research activities, tuition remission and travel to JSU.
