Articulation Agreement

Between the

Mississippi Board of Trustees of

State Institutions of Higher Learning

and the

Mississippi State Board for

Community and Junior Colleges

September 1998

Introduction

This articulation Agreement contains 158 programs of courses appropriate for transfer for community/junior college students who attend Mississippi's eight public universities. At the bottom of each program are listed the universities which offer the baccalaureate degree program.

Each university will accept courses as listed on the particular transfer program without loss of credit toward the conclusion of the four-year degree. It is intended that this articulation agreement be a minimum program transfer for all students moving from the community/junior college to the university system, as well as moving between universities in the system, acting as a "safety net" for transfer students. It is not intended to replace any individual articulation agreement between a particular community/junior college and a university which would allow additional courses to transfer into a specific program of study.

It is vital that the programs of study be reviewed periodically and revisions made where appropriate. The revision process will do the following:

make editorial changes as needed;
further standardize the format for programs of study;
update offerings by universities as needed;
keep appropriate officials abreast of changes made by
the universites.
The chairman of the Articulation Committee for Chief Academic Officers and for the Academic Deans Association shall maintain contact on a continual basis as needed and shall meet during the first week of May each year to carry out a comprehensive review of this document. Editorial changes made by these committee chairmen shall need no further approval, however, any proposed changes in course offerings or transfer hours shall be made in accordance with the following procedures:

1) shall be approved by the Chief Academic Officer at each university which offers the program involved;

2) shall be communicated to the Articulation Committee Chairman for the University Chief Academic Officers Association by June 1, for any changes which are to be implemented by the fall semester of that year;

3) shall be considered by Articulation Committees (universities / community/junior colleges) during the first week of June each year;

4) shall be considered for approval by the University Chief Academic Officers and Community/Junior College Academic Deans during the month of June each year;

5) shall be communicated to community/junior colleges (presidents and academic deans) by July 1, for changes which are to be implemented by the fall semester of that year.

Upon approval, the changes will be published and distributed to the universities and community/junior colleges. It is intended that the document be used as a minimum program of transfer and not replace articulation agreements between individual universities and community/junior colleges.
