Nanoscale Sciences and Technology

   

The overall objective of our collective research faculty in the area of nanoscience is to investigate, theoretically and experimentally, interactions between noble metal, magnetic and organic nanostructures with biological materials for developing new sensors. On the materials science side, we are experimentally working to develop suitable nanomaterials for the construction of integrated optic chemical and biological sensors. Basic research is being implemented on transparent conducting nanomaterials for flexible display applications. In addition, the research group has built a chemical vapor deposition system and has begun synthesizing carbon nanotubes at JSU.

Cluster Objectives

   
    1. To conduct interdisciplinary research in nanoscale science that has the potential to lead to innovative technologies in electronics, photonics, optical communication and sensors.    
    2. To attract, educate and mentor minority students at the undergraduate and graduate levels in nanoscale science and engineering.    
    3. To develop a better understanding of materials degradation through materials development, accelerating testing, and materials characterization    
    4. Developing different type of Nonlinear optical (NLO) materials including molecular aggregates and supramolecular molecules, polymer base NLO material , theoretical understanding of NLO properties.    
    5. Developing nanomaterial for nonlinear optics    
    6. Developing CVD Diamond and Silicon Thin Film material.    
    7. Developing Chemical vapor deposition of nano-diamond and carbon nanotube.    
    8. Developing nano material for Photo Dynamic Therapy (PDT).
