The CSET Research Clusters were developed with input from meetings with CSET faculty and external STEM advisory boards comprised of recognized leaders in academia, industry and government. The CSET Research Clusters provide a framework of the priorities that CSET as a whole must address in order to optimize its entire research portfolio. The CSET Research Clusters have developed a vision for a more efficient and productive system of interdisciplinary research.

Major interdisciplinary activities highlight the College's commitment to high quality research programs in: Applied Computational Sciences and Engineering; Environmental Sciences and Environmental Engineering; Biomedical Sciences; Nanoscale Sciences and Technology; Applied Mathematical Sciences and Data Information, Security and Management. Research teams of faculty and post doctoral researchers join with graduate and undergraduate students to solve problems in bioremediation, atmospheric science, engineering, molecular structure and dynamics, human health and other problems in basic and applied sciences.

The scale and complexity of today's research problems in engineering sciences, biomedical sciences, environmental sciences, energy sciences and material sciences place increasing demands on scientists to move beyond the confines of their own discipline and explore new organizational models for team science. Many scientists will continue to pursue individual research projects; however, they will be encouraged to make changes in the way they approach scientific enterprise. The JSU College of Science, Engineering and Technology wants to stimulate new ways of combining skills and disciplines in the physical, biological, engineering and mathematical sciences.
