RISE (Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement)

Rise

GOAL: The goal of the Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement (RISE) Program is to further prepare minority students in the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology, Departments of Biology and Chemistry/Biochemistry to enter into biomedical research careers.  This will be accomplished by developing student competencies in laboratory techniques, mathematics, life sciences, and the English language to support high academic achievement in challenging undergraduate and graduate programs in the biomedical sciences.

OBJECTIVES:

  1. To increase the number of research eligible students who will engage in state of the art research opportunities during the academic year.
  2. To empower students with relevant knowledge needed to be competitive for graduate school through GRE preparation classes and an enhanced biomedical curriculum.
  3. To increase RISE students’ contributions to the scientific community; through greater conference participations and publication authorships.
  4. To provide RISE students with the skills to plan, organize and participate in at least two workshops that will enable them to impart medical and biomedical information that will result in greater leadership development through cohort engagement and community enrichment.
