ADMISSION TO TEACHER EDUCATON: PROCESS AND CRITERIA

ALL TEACHER EDUCATION MAJORS ARE REQUIRED TO:

               

1.          Conference with your departmental/program advisor.                                       

2.          Follow your prescribed program curriculum sheet as provided by your department.

3.          Complete the minimum 44 hours of prescribed course work, earning a grade of ‘C’ or better in the prescribed math and English courses.

4.          Maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.50.

5.          Participate in the Professional Test Preparation Clinic workshops, and use the Learning Plus software program to prepare for the Praxis 1 Examination during your first two semester at the university.

6.          Register and take the Praxis 1 Examination by the end of your freshman year.

7.          Complete an application for admission to teacher education including two wallet size, professional photographs, two recommendations for admission; original Praxis 1 score results (reading, writing, and math), ACT score of 21 or better with a minimum score of 18 on each of the sub-tests, or SAT score of 860 or better; and your transcript.

8.          Schedule an interview.

9.          Sign acknowledgment that you have been informed that a background check is required by most school districts prior to employment.

10.        Obtain a written statement regarding your admitted status.
