Dr. Marinelle Payton is Associate Professor and Principal Investigator for the Institute of Epidemiology and Health Services Research at Jackson State University. Dr. Payton is an Occupational-Environmental Medicine Physician who trained in Surgery, Radiology, Epidemiology, and Public Health. She received combined M.D.-Ph.D. degrees from Boston University School of Medicine and a Master of Public Health Degree from Harvard School of Public Health. Over the last decade she has worked in public health and conducted research on the brain and central nervous system effects of exposure to toxic chemicals; pollution prevention and intervention in underserved communities; and access to quality healthcare in minority, tribal, and low-income communities. She also serves on several national committees such as: Chair, Health and Research Subcommittee; U.S. EPA National Environmental Justice Advisory Council; Executive Council Member, U.S. EPA National Environmental Advisory Council; and Children's Health Protection Advisory Committee.
