Application for Graduate Degree Candidacy - Doctoral Students
While there is a variation among graduate programs in the specific graduate degree requirements, all programs have in common:
  • A period of pre-candidacy studies, typically intensive coursework and training in the basic skills of research, scholarship and  professional practice appropriate to the discipline
  • A period of post-candidacy studies in which work is applied toward the completion of final degree requirement.

Admission To Candidacy at the Doctoral Level

When approximately 80% of degree requirements have been completed the student should make application for advancement to candidacy.  Please note that student cannot be advanced to candidacy until:
  1. All admission requirements have been met.
  2. All incompletes ("I" grades) have been removed.
  3. Application for Candidacy approved by your departmental committee.
  4. Overall GPA is 3.00 or higher.

Required Information
Section 1.
  • Name and ID Number.
  • Address  (form will be mailed to this address).
  • Degree and Major.
  • Semester you plan to graduate.
Section 2. Please form your dissertation committee with the assistance of your advisor. The committee must approve your research proposal.
  • Approval/Signatures of the members of your committee.
Section 3. Certification and Recommendation of the Department/Program and College.
  • Approval/Signatures of:  Your advisor, Department Chair, and College Dean
  • Note: Your advisor must attach a current degree audit.
Section 4. Acceptance for the Graduate Council.
