Samuel McCain, a resident of Ridgeland, Mississippi, began his artistic odyssey at a very young age. At Shelton Park Elementary in Virginia Beach, Virginia, McCain was recognized for as Artist of the Month on several occasions. In the late 1980s, while at Davis Middle School in Greenwood, Mississippi, Samuel won the city arts festival. In 1997, while studying at Mississippi Delta Community College, McCain won the freshman art award. He later went on to win several awards including the Merit award in an art show at Jackson State University in 2005, the Best in Show and Third place ribbon at the 2009 Mississippi Arts Center’s Annual Juried Art Show held and organized by the Mississippi Artist Guild. Samuel McCain’s artwork was featured in a forty-piece exhibit at the Municipal Art Gallery for the entire month of August 2008, where he was named Artist of the Month during that exhibit. In June 2011, McCain was commissioned to do art for Bunsei Kure (CEO, President, and Director) for Calsonic Kansei (Nissan Supplier), where he is currently employed. Samuel describes his art work/paintings as afro-centric/contemporary art with vibrant prism burst as background for concrete or abstract subject matters in his paintings.
