AGEM HOME
What is AGEM?
The Alliance for Graduate Education in Mississippi
(AGEM) is a consortium made up of Mississippi's four Ph.D. granting
institutions. The University of Mississippi serves as the administrative lead
institution, in collaboration with Jackson State University, Mississippi State
University, and The University of Southern Mississippi. With a 2.5 million
dollar grant award from the National Science
Foundation, our goal focused on tripling the number of doctoral
students, from underrepresented groups, receiving Ph.D.s in science, technology,
engineering and mathematics (STEM). After its initial five year period, AGEM
exceeded its expectations and went from graduating 13 minority doctoral scholars
in STEM areas and from the four institutions, during 1992-1997 to graduating
48 minority doctoral scholars from 1999-2004!
AGEM is now entering its second-five year phase beginning
November 1, 2004 and welcomes its new partnership with The University of Mississippi
Medical Center's Graduate Studies in Health Sciences Division.
