The Fannie Lou Hamer Endowed Scholarship Fund

 

FUND PURPOSE

We wish to establish the Fannie Lou Hamer Endowed Scholarship Fund with a pledge of $25,000 in memory of the life and work of the late Fannie Lou Hamer. This scholarship will support the missions of the Department of Political Science, The Fannie Lou Hamer Institute @COFO and the College of Liberal Arts. The scholarship will be used to pay for tuition, textbooks, supplies, and other fees included in the cost of education for eligible students. 

SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY      

To be eligible for the scholarship(s), candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Incoming freshmen majoring in social science, history, political science, sociology, urban affairs and criminal justice and enrolled full-time at Jackson State University. (Preference will be given to students with a strong interest in the civil rights movement history, women’s studies or law.)
  • Maintain a 2.75 GPA or above
  • Provide proof of community service
  • Provide a good recommendation letter
  • Demonstrate a financial need and academic achievement
