Mississippi Medicaid Work Requirements

Public Hearings

The Mississippi Department of Medicaid has released a public notice stating their intention to submit an application for an 1115 demonstration waiver to CMS. The waiver known as the Medicaid Workplace Training Initiative, includes a work requirement for Mississippian’s covered by Medicaid.

Medicaid work requirements have often proven to be needless, counterproductive and can even add to program costs. Most adult Medicaid enrollees who can work already do. In addition, studies on other benefit programs that have work requirements have shown little or no impact on long-term employment. Medicaid work requirements will drive up the rate of uninsured Mississippians, which will ultimately result in increased health care costs for everyone.

The Mississippi Department of Medicaid is accepting public comments on this waiver and will be hosting two public hearings. Submit your comments and attend the public hearings to make sure your voice is heard!
