I am an interdisciplinary epidemiologist and social scientist with special interests in the evolutionary-adaptive origins of health disparities, the perinatal origins of chronic diseases, and the role of psychosocial factors in health and disease. My recent work has included studies of “river blindness”, with Williams H. Makunde, MD, MPH, National Institute for Medical Research, Tanzania, supported by an investigator-initiated research grant from Pfizer; a study on the pathogenesis of sickle cell disease, with Suvankar Majumdar, MD; and health services evaluation research, supported by the Dwoskin Family Foundation.

Honors:

Grant from the Goldsmith's Company of London to attend McGill University, Montreal; Postgraduate Studentship, LSE; NATO Study Award, Harvard Medical School; U.S. Public Health Service Traineeships, Tulane University School of Public Health; President-Elect, Iowa Public Health Association; $1 million level Grantsmanship Award, Jackson State University; Gold Medallion Grantsmanship Award (for grants/contracts >$10 million), University of Mississippi Medical Center.
