Jackson State University (JSU) is Mississippi’s urban research institution in Jackson, Mississippi.  JSU’s new initiative to establish a School of Public Health (SPH) offers CEPH-accredited MPH and DrPH programs and baccalaureate degree programs in Healthcare Administration and Communicative Disorders as well as a  Master of Science in Communication Disorders with more than 700 students and 44 full and part-time academic professionals. The School's mission is to prepare public health leaders and to improve the health of populations in the state of Mississippi, the nation and the world through evidence-based and community-oriented teaching, research and service.

The School of Public Health invites applications and nominations for a faculty position in the Departments of Behavioral and Environmental Health, Behavioral Health Promotion and Education Concentration at the assistant or associate professor level.  

An ideal candidate will have:

Earned doctorate degree with a focus on behavioral health promotion/education. Applicants with a degree in social sciences (anthropology, sociology, psychology, nutrition, community health, etc.) with an MPH also will be considered for this position.  Earned MPH or doctorate in public health from a CEPH-accredited program/school is preferred. Some experience as a public health practitioner is preferred. CHES and/or MCHES certifications are also preferred. Successful candidates should have strong communication skills, experience working with community-based organizations, a record of scholarly accomplishments, and will be expected to develop an externally-funded research program.

Duties and Responsibilities

Teach graduate courses in designated concentrations
Participate in curriculum development
Serve as a student adviser
Produce scholarly publications
Serve on dissertation committees
Participate on and contribute to various committees at Department, School and University levels
Contribute to the acquisition of extramural funding
Participate in community outreach engagements
Work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment
