When do I find out who my roommate will be?
You may request roommate information from Housing. Due to security reasons information will not be given over the telephone. We will send a letter to you with the name of your roommate and telephone number.
What is included in each room? Each room has two twin beds, two desks, two closets, dressers, mini blinds and a MicroFridge Unit with the exception of Campbell Suites.
What size are the mattresses? Mattresses are twin size and regular length, 36”x75”x6”.
Are single rooms available? We do not assign students to single rooms due to space limitations; however, if space becomes available during the semester, we will honor requests for single rooms. See your Community Director for further details.
What is the size of the room? All residence hall rooms are approximately 10' x 12'.
May I install carpet in my room? No, you may not install carpet but you may bring an area rug.
May I paint my room? Our Maintenance Department does all of the painting in the residence halls. If you feel that your room needs painting inform your Community Director, and he or she will evaluate the room. We will evaluate the condition of the room and the Community Director will report it to Maintenance Department.
If I have a maintenance issue in my room how do I report it? Each student can go to the JSU Website and make a maintenance request. See the Community Director for instructions on how to use the I-Service Desk. If you do not have a computer or if you are unable to use the I-Service desk you may still submit a request for maintenance to the Community Director.
Do I have to be on the meal plan? The meal membership is required for all students who reside on campus during the academic school year. You may change your meal membership if it does not suit your needs by contacting Dining Services. Note: Freshmen are required to have the 15F membership. How do I get a telephone installed in my room? All you have to do is to bring your own telephone. Each room has local calling. To make long distance calls, you must have a calling card. Extra services such as Caller ID, Call Waiting, Voice Mail, etc. are available for a fee. Contact Telecommunications for further information on Caller ID, Call Waiting and Voice Mail at (601) 979-2005.
Can I get Internet access in my room? Yes, Internet service is available in all residence hall rooms. Student computers should meet minimum recommended specification.

Please note students are responsible for purchase and installations of software on their computers. JSU Support Service Personnel will not work on a student’s computer. Students are also responsible for purchasing and installing all software on their computers. JSU Support Service Personnel will provide network connections for student computers.
Do you have cable? Each room is equipped with cable, including HBO. We do not supply cable cords however you may purchase a cable cord at any discount store.
What do I do if I have problems in my room or if I need assistance?
The front desk is supervised twenty-four hours a day. If you are ill or in need of assistance, call the main desk and a staff member will respond immediately. (Area code: 601)

What do I do if I lose my keys? Report lost keys to the Community Director immediately. The locks must be changed for security reasons.
May I make a copy of my key? No for security purposes we will not accept duplicated copy of a room key.
How do I change rooms? Each year a time period is set aside to exchange rooms usually one to two weeks after the residence hall opens for the academic year. See your Community Director for details.
May I bring cooking utensils and appliances?
Each room has a MicroFridge Unit, a combination microwave and refrigerator. Hot plates, personal refrigerators, microwaves, toaster ovens, electric skillets, grills, etc. are not permitted in the residence halls.
May I bring a pet? Pets are not allowed in the residence halls.
Is smoking allowed in the residence halls? No, JSU is a smoke free campus therefore smoking is not allowed in the residence hall.
Why do I have to consolidate (accept a roommate or move into another room) if my roommate moves out and it is not my fault? All residents are charged at a double room rate. If you do not wish to be charged a single rate you must move to another room (consolidate) or another resident may move into the room with you. We charge students according to the way they live. If there are two people residing in a room, we charge a double room rate. If there is only one person in a room, we charge a single room rate.
Do residence hall rooms have a private bath? No, the residence hall rooms do not have private bathrooms; however, there are community bathrooms on each floor. The cleaning staff is responsible for cleaning the bathrooms but we ask all residents to do their part by cleaning up after themselves.
Are there any residence halls that do not have community baths? Yes, we do have suite style residence halls that are designated for upperclassmen. Students are responsible for the cleaning in the suite style residence halls.
May I hang mirrors or put locks on my closets doors? No, this will cause damage to the furniture for which you will be fined.
How do I receive mail? Each student who resides on campus is required to have a post office box. You may obtain your post office box by taking the pink copy of your Lease Agreement and your registration complete receipt to the Campus Post Office and you will be assigned a post office box.
How do I receive packages? Packages that are sent by Fed Ex, UPS, Airborne or DHL go directly to our Central Receiving Department. The following address must be used:

Should I insure my property? Yes, we strongly encourage each student to insure his or her property. Included in our mail outs are insurance brochures from a national insurance company. If you have not received insurance information please contact the Housing Office and we will mail a brochure to you.
