In August 2005, President Bush signed the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU). With his signature, funding was authorized to create a University Transportation Center at Jackson State University. IMTrans officially began on August 1, 2006 and during the past three years we have focused on creating a foundation for success. Some of our accomplishments in the past three years include developing a strategic plan that has been approved by the Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA) at the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), hiring a Director, Business Manager, Research Associate and students, setting up advisory committees, upgrading our website, updating our seal and logo, developing research proposals to receive external funding, collaborating with various transportation agencies, resources, and individuals in joint research efforts, issuing calls for research proposals, executing in-house funded demonstration projects, and funding proposals which compliment our three mission areas of research, education, and technology transfer. IMTrans is committed to developing a comprehensive multidisciplinary team with strong technical administrative skills to propose, conduct, manage, and develop a robust program of Research, Development, Education and Technology Transfer relating to our Multimodal Transportation Systems.
