Through a partnership with Michael Baker, Jr., Inc., a Civil Engineering consulting firm, and MDOT, JSU Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering Capstone Design instructor Dr. Yadong Li is poised to enhance the education of transportation to Civil Engineering students through real-life transportation projects for the Capstone Design class. A three-party joint meeting has been held at the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, JSU on May 22, 2009 to initiate the program and a follow-up meeting between Michael Baker engineers and Dr. Yadong Li was held on July 16, 2009. Three potential real-world projects have been identified for the 2009-2010 Capstone Design class. Michael Baker engineers are committed to assisting JSU Civil Engineering senior students in their design process.

Duration: Apr ’07 – June ’10

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Jackson State University will award a scholarship in each of the next four years to a student based on academic potential or ability, interest in transportation engineering, and professionalism. Data will be collected so that a comparison can be made between the patterns of further study and professional employment for IMTrans-JSU-CIV students and non-scholarship students.
