His previous and current research include airline flight scheduling, public transit route planning, pavement management systems, and emergency evacuation study. He also has practical experience of traffic management, and implementation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in an urbanized environment through his work experience with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). His active research projects are funded by US Department of Transportation (USDOT) and the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT). Dr. Wang serves the State Transportation Innovation Council for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). He is active members of the Emergency Evacuation Committee (ANB10T) and Pavement Management Systems Committee (AFD10) of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) of the National Academy of Sciences and Engineering, and TRB’s representative at JSU coordinating the Minority Research Fellowship program. He has publications in multiple areas in transportation and regularly serves as a referee for journals and conferences in transportation.
Robert W. Whalin, Ph.D., P.E. is Professor of Civil Engineering and Director, Coastal Hazards Center of Excellence. He is Director Emeritus of the Engineer Research and Development Center in Vicksburg, MS. Dr. Whalin has over 40 years of engineering leadership experience including director of the largest civil engineering laboratory complex worldwide. He served as Director, Army Research Laboratory (ARL); Director, USACE* Waterways Experiment Station; and Technical Director, USACE Coastal Engineering Research Center. The ARL program exceeded $1,100,000,000 and had a 2,200 person workforce at six primary locations throughout the United States plus small groups in Japan and the United Kingdom.
