Dr. Donald M. Smith

  • Director: Donald M. Smith, Phd, PE

    Dr. Donald M.Smith began serving as Director of the Institute for Multimodal Transportation (IMTrans) in June 2007. Dr. Smith also serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering. He is recognized as a leader in Civil Engineering research and brings with him over twenty-five years of expertise. In his most recent position he served as project leader, Principal Investigator, Program manager on Design, Analysis, Research, Development, Testing, and Evaluation Programs related to Geotechnical Engineering, Pavement Systems and Materials.
    Dr. Smith earned his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University in 2000. He obtained his M.S. and B.S. in Civil Engineering from Mississippi State University. During his 24 year tenure at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center, Dr. Smith served in several capacities including acting director for the ERDC graduate institute and research civil engineer.

Lareka Washington

  • Business Manager: Lareka Washington

    Lareka Washington began serving as Business Manager of the Institute for Multimodal Transportation (IMTrans) in March 2007. Prior to joining IMTrans, she served with the Margaret Walker Alexander National Research Center at Jackson State University. She received her M.A. in 2007 from Jackson State and received her B.A. from Hollins University in 2003.

Jonathan Easterling

  • Transportation Research Engineer: Mr.Jonathan Easterling

    Jonathan Easterling began serving as the Transportation Research Engineer of the Institute of Multimodal Transportation (IMTrans) in February 2008. Prior to joining IMTrans, Mr. Easterling worked as a Construction Materials Engineer for a Jackson area Geotechnical and Construction Materials Testing Firm. Mr. Easterling brings to IMTrans, 2 years of experience in both laboratory and field testing of construction materials, on site engineering support related to site specific construction issues, as well as research testing of pavement related materials. Mr. Easterling earned his M.S. and B.S. in Civil Engineering from Mississippi State University in 2006 and 2004.

Hemanth Yalamanchili

  • Prg/Web Development Assistant: Mr.Hemanth Yalamanchili

    Hemanth Yalamanchili is a graduate student in the department of Computer Science at JSU. He started working for IMTrans in Jan 2008. Prior to joining IMTrans he worked as a Graduate Assistant for two years with Academic Information Technology at Jackson State University. He will be graduating in May 2009.

Mahesh Nayak

  • Research Associate Engineer: Mr.Mahesh Nayak

    Mahesh Nayak, a Masters degree student in the Electrical Engineering Program of Jackson State University began serving IMTrans as a Program Development Assistant in June 2007. Prior to joining IMTrans, he had served as a Graduate Assistant for two years with the Director of the Graduate Engineering Program at Jackson State University.

Laurette Thuisseu

  • Life science Intern:
    Ms.Laurette Thuisseu

    Laurette Thuisseu, is an undergraduate Student in Biology at JSU. She started working for IMTrans as a Life science intern in June 2007. Prior to joining IMTrans she worked as an Assistant at the National Center for Biodefense and Telecommunication at Jackson State University.
