"Message from the Dean"
February 1, 2010
Dear Students, Faculty, Staff, Alumni and Friends:
Karibu! Nno Ije! Maa! Akwaaba! Dobrodosli! Bein vindo! Bienvenido, Benvenoto! Huanying! Rea Le Amohela! Welcome to Jackson State University and this year’s International Week. It is impossible to welcome you in all the languages represented on our campus because we are so culturally diverse. Thus, we are hopeful that we can share a small portion of our diversity and a sampling of the rich culture of the approximately 120 countries associated with our University.
We are pleased that you are helping us to celebrate 2010 International Week! Moreover, we trust that you will continue to share our enthusiasm for increased awareness of international affairs. Your participation will improve your understanding of our global community. We applaud you for your involvement in this most important cross-cultural event.
It is our sincere wish to showcase the University’s commitment to international education by facilitating exchange relationships, fostering interaction among U.S. national and international students and scholars, and enhancing the University’s multicultural environment through the design and development of educational, social, and cross-cultural programs. While the foregoing is no small task for us, it is a labor of love.
Finally, we encourage each of you to take time to participate in the numerous activities planned throughout International Week. The enclosed schedule can be viewed for date and time of the weeklong activities. Also, visit our page at www.jsums.edu/~intweek for a detailed listing of all activities. Gracias! Merci’! Spaseeba! Dankie! Thank you for helping to make the 2010 International Week a success.
Sincerely,
Ally Mack, Dean
