Li has an M.S. in journalism from Ohio University and a Ph.D. in mass communication from University of Minnesota. Since coming to Jackson State University in fall 2002, he has taught a wide range of courses:

Li's research interests are in vicarious learning, agenda setting and other psychological influences of mass media on humans.
