Dr. Teresa R. Taylor, a native of Brandon, MS, serves the Department of Mass Communications as an Assistant Professor. After receiving her undergraduate degree at the University of Southern Mississippi in 1992, Dr. Taylor enrolled in the University of New Orleans and received a Master of Arts in Mass Communication in 1998. In 2002 she completed the requirements for her Ph.D. in Mass Communication from the University of Southern Mississippi. Dr. Taylor has taught mass communication and speech communication in higher education since 2000 serving on the faculty at The University of Alabama in Huntsville, Mississippi State University, and Tougaloo College.

Dr. Taylor teaches courses that are foundational and those that focus on theory and research. Her areas of research are media literacy and mediated portrayals, especially those of African-American women. In the Mass Communications department at JSU Dr. Taylor teaches in the Introduction to Mass Communication; Legal and Ethical Aspects of Mass Communications; and Race, Gender, and Media. In addition to teaching in higher education, Dr. Taylor is also an inspirational speaker and provides communication training to groups and individuals.
