Mission:

Margaret Walker Alexander National research center is to serve as an archive and museum for the presentation, interpretation and dissemination of African American Culure.


Goals:

The Center’s goals are:


1. To foster cooperative working relationships between departments of the University and the Black Studies interests;

2. To encourage student, staff, and faculty interest, study and research in the history, life, and culture of African Americans;

3. To encourage students to seek minors in the African American experience through an interdisciplinary core of courses;

4. To serve as a coordinating unit for special events at the University as well as surrounding communities;

5. To provide an interpretive Visitors Center that will feature the history of Jackson State; and

6. To provide research resources on the 20th Century African American experience.
