Welcome to the Inaugural Medgar Evers International Day of Justice and Service!
Saturday June 8, 2013
It has been 50 years since Medgar Wiley Evers was taken from us. While many of his contemporaries know and remember him as a civil rights martyr, countless others do not know his full contributions to our nation and to the world. It is only fitting that we honor his legacy as we educate the world that Medgar Evers was a visionary: a servant leader, a soldier, a citizen and an American Hero.
I am delighted that the Metro Jackson Chapter of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and the International Community Ambassadors Network (I!CAN) have joined together as our partners to launch the Inaugural Medgar Evers Day of Justice and Service. On Saturday, June 8, 2013 during the Inaugural Medgar Evers International Day of Justice and Service, individuals and organizations are asked to implement volunteer service projects throughout their communities around the world. We invite everyone to participate in this Day of Justice and Service to perpetuate the legacy of justice and service begun by Medgar Wiley Evers. Our vision is to continue this Day each year as we carry the Medgar Evers message of unity, faith, integrity, courage and service.
How do you become a part of this great legacy? Choose a service project that excites you! Choose a project that will help someone else! Choose a project that is meaningful! The objective is to SERVE!
When your service project is complete, please let us know of your success by returning to our website and giving us a description of your activity and the number of people you served. We also ask that you upload photos from your service project. If we get your photos by 8:00 p.m. (CST) Sunday, June 9, we will include them in our video presentation to be shown at our Medgar Evers Black Tie Tribute Gala on Wednesday, June 12, 2013.
Additionally, when we receive your on-line information, you will receive a letter of thanks and congratulations from The Evers Family. Your name or your organization’s name will be listed as having participated in the Inaugural Medgar Evers International Day of Justice and Service. If you need further information, please contact Will Jemison at firstname.lastname@example.org or Juanita Sims Doty at email@example.com.
We look forward to your participation in our Inaugural Day of Justice and Service.
