What to Expect

Tiger Stations

Upon arrival to the Walter Payton Wellness and Recreation Center, ALL STUDENTS will complete the Move-In Day process by visiting the following stations:

Station 1:  Check-In  (A valid photo ID is required for check-in.)


Station 2:  Admissions and Recruitment
Meet your admission and/or recruitment counselor, complete an application for admission to Jackson State University, submit any required ACT/SAT scores, immunization records, or final transcripts.


Station 3:  Parent and Family Association

Parents, guardians, and family members are important to us.  Stop by to sign-up for the association and learn about ways to participate in programs and services offered by Jackson State University.  Because we appreciate you so much, you are invited to our Annual Parent and Family Association reception on August 2, 2015 from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm in the Student Center, 2nd Floor Commuter Lounge.  Enjoy an evening socializing with other parents and guardians as well as meet members of the JSU family who will assist your student in his/her transition to JSU.


Station 4:  Housing and Residence Life
Complete a housing application, pay housing deposit, and/or receive room assignment.  Note: Residence Halls are fully assigned; therefore, we are unable to accept requests for changes in housing assignments until August 30, 2015.  

  • Packing: Be aware that students have limited space in their residence hall rooms or apartments, and only one car load is strongly recommended. Rental trucks, trailers, and moving vans are not permitted. Furniture provided in residence hall rooms must remain in the rooms. Parents can help guard against property loss or damage by carrying renter’s insurance on your student.  Rental insurance information can be obtained at the front desk located in the lobby of each residence hall.

Station 5:  Sodexo Magic

Fall semester dining plans will be available for use on Saturday, August 20, 2015.  Brunch will be served in the Heritage Dining Hall from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm and dinner from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm.  Residential students must show a valid student identification card in order to eat within the dining hall.  

Freshmen are required to have the 7 Day All Access Plan.  Tiger Bucks can only be utilized once the registration is complete.  Sodexo Magic is located in the Student Center (1st Floor – Office 1200).  Sodexo Magic can be contacted at 601-979-2561.  For more information, feel free to visit their website at https://jsums.sodexomyway.net/.

Station 6:  Post Office

The Post Office is located in Reddix Hall, 1st Floor.  You can contact the Post Office at 601.979.2051.  

The Post Office will be on Saturday, August 20, 2015 from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.  Each student is provided a mailbox, which is located in the J. R. Reddix Hall.  All students who reside on campus are required to have a post office box. Mail and packages sent to students from family and friends should be addressed as follows:

John R. Doe (student’s name including middle initial)
JSU Box number
Jackson, MS 39217

UPS, Airborne, and Federal Express packages may be picked up in the Campus Post Office Located in Reddix Hall. Packages should contain the following information:

Student’s name (including middle initial)
Residence Hall in which the student resides
Room Number or telephone number
1325 Hattiesburg Street
Jackson, MS 39217

To ensure the package reaches the proper destination and person, never use nicknames, or send a package in any name but the student’s name.


Station 7:  Tiger Tech

Meet the Tiger Tech team to sign up for the Apple TV drawing. 

Tiger Tech is location in the Student Center, 1st Floor. You can contact the store at 601.979.7005. The store hours are Monday-Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm, closed on Saturday and Sunday.

Tiger Tech is an Apple Authorized Campus Store.  It is the only Apple Authorized Campus Store (AACS) in the State of Mississippi.  We are proud to offer Apple brand products at great educational prices!  Tiger Tech offers Jackson State students, faculty, and staff a variety of technological services and products.

Station 8:  Auxiliary Enterprises

“WOW” SERVICE—Exceeding All Expectations of Everday Service!

The Department of Auxiliary Enterprise is located in Reddix Hall, 3rd Floor, Suite 321.  You can contact the office at 601.979.1325.

Auxiliary Enterprise office will be closed on Saturday, August 15, 2015.  The office is open Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.

The Division of Auxiliary Enterprises is dedicated to provide the highest quality products and services to the Jackson State University Community.  Our mission is to parallel with the goals of the University in providing goods and services to ensure a comprehensive campus community experience for students, faculty and staff to maximize their success.  We work diligently to support the University’s mission as we provide the campus and extended communities innovative services through strategic business partnerships that continuously improve value and enhance the overall campus style experience.

Our enterprise teams, collectively known as the A-Team, consist of Contractual Services, Postal Services, Retail Operations, Housing/Residence Life, and Walter Payton Center.

Station 9: Financial Aid

Meet your financial aid counselor to review, change, and accept financial aid awards.  

The Financial Aid Office at Jackson State University coordinates all financial assistance (federal, state, institutional, and private) offered to students. Their fundamental purpose is to make a university education possible to those who would otherwise be unable to have one.

Financial Aid is financial assistance that helps a student lessen the difference between what he/she can afford to pay and the actual cost of attendance. Financial assistance consists of grants, loans, employment, scholarships or a combination of any of these forms.

The Financial Aid Office is located in B.F. Roberts Hall.  You can contact the Financial Aid Office at 601-979-2227.


Station 10:  Business Office

Make payment arrangements and/or receive financial advice.

Notice of university billing, including Housing and Dining fees, will be sent to students’ Jackson State University e-mail address. Students are responsible for providing access to the statement to parents/guardians or anyone who is paying on their behalf. Fall semester fees are due by August 26, 2015. Students can and should still apply for financial aid if needed. If applicable, refunds can be direct deposited to a checking or savings account. Station 11:  ID Center

Say cheese!  Your JSU student ID will provide you assess to your residence hall as well as dining facilities on campus.  

Your Jackson State University ID card is a multi-purpose card. Its primary function is to serve as an identification card for all students, faculty and staff and must be worn and visible at all times. Failure to display your ID when asked or replacement will result in a $25.00 fine/fee.  The JSU card also provides access to numerous venues throughout the campus and off campus. Station 12:  Parking and Transportation
To obtain your JSU student decal, you must have completed the registration process.  Students who do not complete the registration process will not receive a decal.  The following items are required to obtain a decal:

  • Proof of Insurance
  • Vehicle Make and Model
  • Tag Number

The University reserves the right to regulate the use of all vehicles on the campus and to forbid the use of a vehicle by a student, faculty/staff member, employee, or visitor whose conduct in any manner indicates he/she is not complying with the University regulations.

The University does not guarantee a parking space, except reserve parking. Registration of a vehicle and display of a decal does not guarantee a parking space, except reserve parking.

The University reserves the right to: (a) designate the exact area that any vehicle may be parked on campus, and (b) restrict the number of decals issued for any area.

Station 13:  Move-In First Photo

Take your first official JSU photo as a student with parents, friends and family members. Remember to share your photos with us on Instagram and Twitter at #JSUMVN14.  


Station 14:  Residence Hall Check-In

Proceed to your assigned residence hall to be greeted by your new JSU family.  Upon arriving to the residence hall, please proceed to the lobby (located on the first floor of each residence hall) to receive your key to your room.  Members of the JSU family will be available to assist you with moving your items to your room.
