Darcie Bishop, Associate Professor in the Department of Music at Jackson State University, also holds the position of Principal Trumpet with the Mississippi Symphony since 1988.  A graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy, Darcie received both the Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Trumpet Performance from The Juilliard School in New York City, along with the Ph.D. in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Higher Education from The University of Mississippi.  She has had the pleasure of performing throughout the state of Mississippi as a member of the Mississippi Symphony, as well as a soloist, in addition to her invitations for master-classes and clinics.

Dr. Bishop has had the honor of performing as a soloist with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, as well as with the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra, among others. Her solo performances have been met with standing ovations and favorable reviews.  In addition, Darcie is an active chamber musician performing as Principal Trumpet with the Mississippi Symphony Chamber Orchestra, and the Mississippi Symphony Brass Quintet.  She has participated in the Eastern Music Festival, Waterloo Music Festival and New York Renaissance Festival, among others.

Dr. Bishop studied with trumpet artists Mark Gould (Metropolitan Opera Orchestra), Richard Gianguilio (Dallas Symphony Orchestra) and Edward Carroll (International Soloist and Clinician), and has played in orchestras conducted by such greats as Zubin Mehta, Gunter Schuller and Gerard Schwartz.

Students from Dr. Bishop’s studio at Jackson State University can be credited with stellar success in their field of choice.  Many of her trumpet students have gone on to become outstanding music educators in their own right, leading successful music programs in Jackson and throughout the state and nation. Dr. Bishop is also credited with teaching the likes of successful professional performers such as Russell Gunn, Jazz Trumpet Recording Artist, James Williams III, Trumpeter with Joel Olsteen Ministries Lakewood Church in Houston Texas, and Avery McFadden, a New York City Studio Freelance Musician.
