The Jackson State University
Development Foundation has the primary role of generating, managing and
distributing funds for the enhancement of JSU. All gifts are
administered in strict compliance with the instructions of the donor.
When a gift is not accompanied by instructions, it is administered as an
unrestricted gift; that is, it is used to fulfill the greatest needs of JSU
as determined by the board of directors and the president of the University. The JSU Development Foundation is
governed by a board of directors consisting of alumni, business and
community leaders, faculty, staff, administrators, students and friends of
the University.
In 1969, JSU established the JSU Development Foundation, Inc., to receive, manage
and administer contributions and gifts for the benefit of the University.
The Foundation is a public charity under the Internal Revenue Code -
501(c)(3). The JSU Development Foundation, Inc. has arranged
scholarship programs, financial aid for deserving students, and assisted
academic, athletic, community and student projects at the University.
Because it is a foundation separate from the state government, it has
additional flexibility to help the University meet its needs and goals in a
timely manner.
Alumni and friends of JSU can make contributions to JSU through the
Development Foundation in the form of cash, marketable securities, real
estate and other property. The Foundation offers the opportunity to
make gifts in various forms, including cash, property, bequests, charitable remainder trusts, private annuities and
charitable lead trusts. The
Board of Directors manages the Foundation in coordination with the Office of Institutional Advancement.
