Frequently Asked Questions

What is The Faith Fund?
The Faith Fund is our annual giving program used to raise unrestricted funds for the general support of the institution and the cornerstone upon which all other fund raising programs are built.

What is the significance of The Faith Fund?
The Faith Fund is the main source of unrestricted giving to the University. Donors are encouraged to participate in this program by contributing on an annual basis to general scholarships and academic support of the University. A major aim of The Faith Fund is to “develop the habit of giving” among JSU alumni and friends. The significance of the program is to gain greater support for the University.

Why is there a need to support unrestricted giving?
Unrestricted contributions given to the JSU Development Foundation, Inc., provide the University financial flexibility to offer appropriate assistance to students, as well as, to meet the priorities and projected demands of the University. However, restricted gifts are always welcome and may be designated for special interest categories by the donor.

Who can participate in The Faith Fund?
Everyone who has an interest in higher education in general, and Jackson State University in particular, is invited to participate. Alumni give because they have directly benefited from Jackson State and because they want to extend the same opportunity to an increasing number of young women and men. Alumni, faculty, staff, retirees, friends, corporations, small businesses, civic organizations, and parents join in the annual effort to express their appreciation for the University's educational leadership, as well as, to provide assistance where the need is greatest.

Why should I support The Faith Fund?
Quality education is the key to conquering many of today's problems. Through your giving to The Faith Fund, you can be counted among the dedicated and loyal alumni and friends who support future generations through opportunities for higher education.

What is a matching gift company?
A matching gift company is a corporation that matches employee's donations. Most corporate contributions are unrestricted and can be used where the need is greatest.

My company has a matching gift program. Do I receive credit for my total gift to JSU?
If you (or your spouse) are employed by a company with a Matching Gift Program, your contributions and the company's matched contributions can be counted towards membership in the annual giving clubs. It is the responsibility of the employee to obtain the appropriate matching gift application from their employer and forward it to the JSU Development Foundation, Inc.

Can I give gifts other than cash to the JSU Development?
Yes, gifts other than cash are appreciated. Gifts can include real estate or securities, in-kind, bequests, life-income gifts, living trusts, charitable lead trusts, stock, life insurance, and tangible personal property.

What is the determining factor in how my gift will be credited and recognized by the Jackson State University Development Foundation?
All gifts, regardless of size, are credited to your giving record. The amount of your gift can determine the level of donor recognition. Your contributions to the Development Foundation are maintained by a computer system designed to track all contributions.
