Training Reserach Certification

There are several websites for researchers, faculty and students, to utilize for completing a research certification. This certification provides a summary of the history for protection of human subjects, and some guidelines for the researcher to consider as they plan a study.

Go to Educational Resources and click on the link below:
  • Online Training

Complete all three modules. At the end of each module, print your certificate. Keep the original and submit the copy(s) with your IRB appication. All persons including faculty and students assisting with the project should complete a certification.

Another site that should be used for persons applying for grants is given below. This certification requires 1 hour to complete and you may start and stop at any of the 6 modules. When all 6 are complete, you will be able to print a certificate.

Another good website is Public Responsibility in Research and Medicine. This website has multiple links to various research information centers.

If you scroll to the bottom of the page, you will find the following categories:

Resources Available at Academic Institutions
Accessible Genetics Research Ethics Education (AGREE)
Center for Bioethics, Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons

Harvard Program on Ethical Issues in International Health Research

Stanford University Human Subjects Manual
Stanford University - Administrative Panels on Human Subjects

The Johns Hopkins Medicine IRB

The link to the John Hopkins Medicine IRB is also comprehensive and provides a good source of information for human subjects as well as modules for ethics, conflict of interest, etc. The module for human subjects would also be an acceptable website to use for a research certification.
