Congratulations on our improved APR scores

Jackson State University Family and Friends:

Please join me in congratulating the staffs of the Division of Undergraduate Studies, the Department of Athletics and the student athletes for their hard work that resulted in an increase in the Tiger football team’s Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores, a system used by the NCAA to evaluate the academic performance of its member institutions.  This is a wonderful indication of JSU’s recognition of a problem, our ability to devise a recovery plan, and our commitment to the implementation of the plan.  Special thanks are extended to Ms. Adrienne Swinney, associate athletics director, and to Dr. Evelyn Leggette, dean of the Division of Undergraduate Studies.  And of course, we thank our athletics director Dr. Vivian Fuller, her staff and all of our athletic teams for their ongoing pursuit of excellence.  This is JSU honoring our traditions.

While we celebrate this achievement, let us not forget that the NCAA waiver requires that we must do this – continue to improve our APR rates – for three years.  We’re off to a fantastic start.  Thanks everyone!

Dr. Carolyn W. Meyers
President, Jackson State University
