Annual student exhibition ends April 10

March 10, 2009

(JACKSON, Miss.) - The Jackson State University Department of Art will hold its annual juried student exhibition from Thursday, March 12, through Friday, April 10, in the first floor art gallery of the Dollye M.E. Robinson Building. The opening reception will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 12.

The exhibition will give students a chance to display their artwork, says Hyun Kim, director of the event.

"These exhibitions help motivate students by competing against each other to earn scholarship funds," Kim said.

With support from the Greater Jackson Arts Council, students can earn up to $200 for the Best of Show honor.

Not every piece submitted made the final cut for the exhibition, Kim said. The total collection of approximately 45 pieces represents half of what was submitted.

Tenikka Sanders' Asian-inspired mask made the cut.

"I like the design on the forehead," said the senior psychology major from Alexandria, La. "It looks like a tree and I thought it was really pretty."
