Alternative Science Academy

The Alternative Science Academy is an emerging program which develops the pedagogical competencies and content mastery of teachers in alternative schools and the juvenile justice system. The Alternative Science Academy also introduces students in these institutional settings to MSP’s other programs and will work with teachers, law enforcement, the judiciary, parents, community and faith based organizations and other stakeholders to use mathematics and sciences as prevention and intervention strategies for troubled youth. Still in the formative state, the program got its beginnings in teacher participation in Project MAST and their students’ enthusiastic response to the Portable Planetarium. MSP will seek to initiate officially the Alternative Science Academy pending funding in 2009.
