Crime Prevention

Jackson State University has a Closed Campus policy that requires officers to check for identification when entry is made onto campus property.

Officers will check all incoming vehicles entering the main campus for various reasons. A check is made for identification, parking permits, and the nature of business for entering the campus if a non-student or non- faculty member is involved.

Other exterior entrances to the campus are manned daily by officers until the entry-way is closed (Dalton Street entrance).

Officers are strategically located throughout the campus, and perform patrol duties throughout the campus area. Patrol is performed by motorized units, by foot patrol, and by bicycle patrol in designated areas.

After 6 p.m., two gates are open to enter or exit the campus. This is not intended to penalize resident students, but is intended to provide optimum safety.
