We welcome you to the College of Public Service (CPS) at Jackson State University through our website.
Our mission is to educate students from diverse backgrounds for outstanding professional service and to develop local, national, and international innovative leaders in the professional academic disciplines represented in the Schools of Health Sciences, Policy and Planning, and Social Work.
The CPS offers a wide array of graduate programs that include: public health, communicative disorders, social work, urban and regional planning and public policy and administration. Our undergraduate academic degree offerings are in health care administration, communicative disorders, social work and urban studies.
As you visit our website, you will also discover that the CPS houses a number of Centers and Institutes whose primary focus is addressing the needs of residents of the State of Mississippi and the nation, such as: The Institute of Epidemiology and Health Services Research, Center of Excellence in Minority Health and Health Disparities, The Jackson Heart Study’s Community Outreach Center (CORC) and Graduate Training and Education Center (GTEC), Center for Urban Planning and Policy Assessments, Mississippi Urban Research Center (MURC), Mississippi Child Welfare Institute, and Southern Institute for Mental Health Advocacy, Research and Training (SMHART).
Public service is at the heart of what we are all about which presents opportunities to connect our programs with health care in the state of Mississippi, which has the nation’s highest rates of poor health and incidence of health disparities.
