The National Black Women's Health Project Self-Help/Self- Care model is used with women in domestic violence shelters, correctional facilities, alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs and other settings. Self-Help groups are designed to empower women to deal with physical, spiritual, and emotional issues. The model is premised on confidentiality, support, and building capacity in women to solve their own problems.
