1.0        Policy Statement

Federally sponsored scholarships are only issued to enrolled students and are allowable costs only when specially identified in the proposal and award notice.  Recipients of scholarships may be required to meet specific academic achievements or other criteria as defined in the proposal or the award notice.

2.0        Purpose

This policy is designed to outline the University’s policy on awarding scholarships to eligible students as defined in the Uniform Guidance Code §200.466, which states that the costs of scholarships, fellowships, and other programs of student aid at Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs) are allowable only when the purpose of the Federal award is to provide training to selected participants and the charge is approved by the Federal awarding agency.

3.0        Definitions

Scholarship – Funds awarded to students with the intent to support the educational expenses of the recipient. Scholarships may include funds awarded for tuition, fees, room, board, travel related to educational opportunities, books and other educational expenses.

4.0        Additional Information

4.1        Scholarships are only awarded to currently enrolled students at Jackson State University, during academic terms within the performance period of a sponsored project.

4.2        All supporting documentation for these disbursements must be signed by the recipient and the Principal Investigator of the award indicating acceptance of the award’s terms and conditions.

4.3        All accepted scholarship awards are posted directly to the Banner student account.

5.0        Employee Adherence

Employees are required to adhere to these guidelines.  Willful disregard of this policy shall be considered non-compliance and may result in a formal reprimand up to and including termination.  The information stated in this policy pertains and applies to applicable employees, departments and funding sources of the University.
