Established in 2003, the Center for University Scholars facilitates research productivity and teaching effectiveness and re-tooling for Jackson State University’s full-time tenure-track faculty members. The centerpiece of the Center’s efforts is the University Scholars Program which competitively awards research grants including graduate assistantships to tenure-track Jackson State faculty. Additionally, the Center has awarded hundreds of travel subsidies for research presentation and graduate assistantships to faculty.
Along with these grant programs, the Center sponsors teaching and learning fora, professional development workshops and its flagship program, the annual University Scholars Symposium. The symposium provides an opportunity for University Scholars to present their findings to the university community and hosts an internationally-recognized scholar as part of its annual Holden Lecture.
