University Scholars Program
Annual Symposium
Annually, the Center for University Scholars presents a symposium during which University Scholars present their research projects. The symposium is an opportunity for scholars to present their research to a broad audience, to be recognized for their research achievements, to discover shared research interests with colleagues and to receive valuable feedback before presenting at national and international conferences. More broadly, the symposium brings internationally-recognized scholars to Jackson State for lively academic discourse, highlights current research by Jackson State University faculty members and exposes the Jackson metropolitan community to JSU's research activities.
The symposium is organized around a series of sessions over a two-day period. Each session typically has 2-4 presenters and 2-3 respondents. Paper presentations are fifteen minutes long and followed by responses of about ten minutes per paper. Each session includes a question and answer period designed to encourage interaction among participants including audience members. Many of the presentations are accompanied by a powerpoint presentation.
