The Latasha Norman Center for Counseling and Disability Services is committed to working with JSU students experiencing certain adjustment challenges as they matriculate through their academic program and college experience. Our mission is to provide services and activities that can assist the student of Jackson State University as they transition and seek assistance with building their problem-solving skills, managing relationships and becoming more independent and confident. The Latasha Norman Center for Counseling and Disability Services is a short-term student support service.
In order for a student, employee, or campus visitor to receive accommodations in the university setting, he/she must disclose his or her disability to the ADA Coordinator who will ask him or her to provide documentation regarding the disability when applicable. The student, employee, or campus visitor is responsible for ascertaining the necessary documentation. If the documentation is incomplete or inadequate to decide the extent of the accommodations, the ADA Coordinator may ask for additional documentation. Services or accommodations may be denied pending the receipt of documentation. Documentation is not limited to but may include the following criteria for intake considerations:
a) the individual must be qualified
b) the individual must self identify
c) the individual must successfully complete a student/personnel request for services form (or intake form)
d) the individual must provide official supporting documentation
e) The ADA Coordinator will authenticate the accommodation plan based on the completed intake form, the official supporting documentation provided and the interactive ness during the accommodation’s meeting
f) A letter of notification will be sent out relative to the accommodation plan authenticated by the ADA Office on a need to know basis only
