TRY OUTS
In preparing for the upcoming season we are looking for additional people who can help us have an outstanding season. We are looking for the Best of the Best. Potential cheerleaders must possess a number of qualities such as intelligence, great skill, technique, spirit, work ethics, attitudes and personality . We need people with self discipline, self motivation and positive attitudes. We are looking for men and women who are willing to give 110% at all times, and this includes practice and performance. Cheerleaders must be ambassadors for JSU at ALL TIMES.
Summer Try-Outs
The Tryouts for the Fall 2008/Spring 2009 Squad will be held on July 16.
Wednesday the 16th activities will be from 6:00 p.m – 10:00 p.m. Please bring your own cheer. (Closed Try-Outs)
Spring Try-Outs
The Tryouts for the Fall 2008/Spring 2009 Squad will be held on April 18-20.
Friday the 18th activities will include interviews beginning at 6:00pm , but please bring practice clothes also.
Saturday the 19th from 8:00am-5:00pm will be the actual clinic where all the material will be taught.
Sunday the 20th will be the official Tryout day. (Closed Try-Outs)
(Please be prepared to stay for about an hour if selected for a brief minute.)
***It is mandatory that you attend each day unless cleared by Mrs. Oatis.
Mrs. Oatis is also accepting tapes for out of town students who have date conflicts.
An official tryout will still be granted based on tape.
Will not accept tapes after June 30, 2008.
Audition Criteria
Those coming from out of town are responsible for their own meals and lodging
Returning squad members, tumbling is a must.
Be prepared for some expenses
Be prepared to attend Cheerleader camps & clinics
Be prepared to remain for a meeting if selected
Be prepared to pay $50.00 camp deposit upon making the squad.
Parent/Guardian signature is required if you are under 18 years old
Registration Fee - $10.00(Those who did not attend mini clinics and is non refundable)
High School and transfer students must have applied/ be accepted to JSU
Waiver must be signed before the audition
Participants should have comprehensive health coverage
Financial Aid paperwork should be filled out prior to auditions
No scholarships offered at this time
Be prepared to send letters of recommendation if requested
Use appropriate cheerleading and gymnastic personnel to teach you new skills
Make sure you always have the appropriate number of spotters when practicing
Audition Requirements
Previous varsity high school cheering experience preferred.
Execute all motions sharply
Execute Elite jumps (toe touch* side/front hurdles)
Execute all motions sharply
Articulate words clearly
Strong voice volume
Rhythmically coordinated
Demonstrate high spirit level at all times
Tumbling is a plus !! (back handspring, back tuck, etc)
Must be willing to fly and base
Must be able to take suggestive criticism
Must be physically fit; toned; proportioned; flyers ( 120lb or less preferred)
2.3 GPA for college students
Attire for Audition Day Females:
Wear a navy sports bra, biking shorts
White anklet socks and white wrist bands
White cheerleader tennis shoes
Eat light, bring bottled water
Males:
Navy shorts and white tee - shirt
White tennis shoes
Eat light, bring bottled water
