Greetings JACKSON STATE UNIVERSITY!

I would like to THANK YOU God and my constituents for giving me the opportunity to serve as YOUR Student Government Association Visionary. My name is Andrell D. Harris, a senior Finance major from Terry, Mississippi. As SGA President for 2007-2008, it is indeed a privilege to have the opportunity to be the voice of the student body. The theme for the SGA this year is “Tying U into JSU”. The Student Government Association’s goal is to be a liaison between the student body and the administration.

The Student Government Association (SGA) is an organization that is comprised of ALL undergraduate students that are registered at Jackson State University. The SGA is composed of three councils—Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. There are also four Class Councils representing each class (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior).

As we work this year “Tying U into JSU”, our commitment is simple, (1) provide the means whereby the members of the SGA may express themselves effectively in the programs of the University which affect their social, economic, physical, intellectual, and spiritual welfare; (2) promote student’s rights and responsibilities; and (3) promote academic freedom and academic responsibilities. The SGA works for the students and with the administration. We are focused on serving the needs of YOU, the students. If we can ever assist you in any way, please feel free to contact us at 601-979-2090 or via email at jsusga@jsums.edu.

The SGA offices are located on the 3rd floor of the Jacob L. Reddix Campus Union Building. Our monthly SGA meetings are held on the last Wednesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. in the Jacksonian Lounge, 3rd floor of the Campus Union. This year, we will take an aggressive approach to heavily promote our monthly meetings to ensure that you are aware of their occurrence and that you attend. During each meeting, we will host a student forum so you have an opportunity to voice and discuss any issues that may be affecting you and your surrounding community. We want you to be an active part of OUR family so come and get involved with us this year as we implement “Project C.H.A.N.G.E.S by Tying U into JSU”.
