The Center for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology’s (CBCB) mission is to provide an academic environment for sustainable, internationally renowned research and education in bioinformatics and computational biology at Jackson State University.
One of the outreach activities of the CBCB is to offer a 2 week summer enrichment program to high school students (10th-12th grade).
The goals of the microbial bioinformatics summer program are to:
- Expose students to the computational and biological sciences.
- Excite students to consider careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and
- Encourage teamwork among students.
A total of 25 students will be selected to participate in the 2013 summer program. This will include 2 weeks of independent research; include learning how to write bioinformatics scripts and interpreting genomic information.
