While providing an engaging educational setting for young children, the Lottie W. Thornton Early Childhood Center is a research and teaching laboratory for University faculty, staff and students. Licensed by the Mississippi Department of Health and Human Services, the Center operates a full-year, full day program with a primary focus on early literacy. The Center serves children from the age of two through the age of five years old. The Center operates under the auspice of the Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education within the College of Education and Human Development.
The Mission of the Lottie W. Thornton Early Childhood Center in the Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education is to provide students, researchers, and practitioners opportunities to observe and work with young children, while serving as a model urban literacy-based early education program for young children.
