MLI is a group-based intervention program for JPS Middle School Students and families to intervene on their academic track, raise self esteem, and set High School and College goals. MLI exposes students to academic enrichment activities, develops their social skills, introduces them to cultural activities and encourages college education.
The program is open to Jackson Public School students in grades 6 – 8. It will focus on academics, career awareness presentations by professionals, college campus visits, field trips, and parent involvement seminars. The program offers skill enrichment activities with special emphasis on college entrance exams, African Americans in math, computer technology, reading and history. Students are offered assistance in basic academic skills, including reading, counseling, study skills, mentoring, and parental counseling. The program blends coaching and mentoring in a manner that facilitates personal-growth, and gives students a chance to begin examining the true value and potential they possess.
